Sanna Hansson & The Swatchmen are an up and coming band from Malmö. They create a sharp sound described as quirky pop with cabaret influences. Since the band was formed in 2015, they have played around 100 shows at venues such as Moriska Paviljongen in Malmö and Mejeriet in Lund plus arranged a tour in London. Their debut EP ”Bye Bye Strawberry Pie” was released in January 2017. This release was followed up by the single "Humbug", premiered on Popmuzik in July 2017.

Sanna Hansson grew up in a small village in the south of Sweden where she was surrounded by music from an early age. At the age of three Sanna was given her first microphone, made out of a toilet roll, aluminium foil and a curly telephone cord. Since the age of 9 she has been writing an endless number of songs- her influences include inspirational performers/songwriters such as The Ark, Miss Li and April Smith & The Great Picture Show.

Early Years

In 2007 she entered a local talent show and won, which marked the beginning of Sannas musical journey. At that time, she entered multiple talent shows, but were also a member of the performance group LL Dance Company where she both sung and danced at events such as the opening of the shopping mall Entré in Malmö and shows at Kävlinge theatre. A few years later Sanna formed the band Sanna and Elin together with pianist Elin Lennartsson, which after a few years later became the trio Ravishing Mint by adding her brother Hampus Hansson. Ravishing Mint performed at festivals such as Malmöfestivalen and the event SommarLund but also parties and weddings. In 2013 they made it to the regions final of the music competition Musik direkt.

Except for years of musical experience, Sanna also devoted time to educate herself in the subject of music. At the age of 9, she started taking keyboard and piano lessons and at 12 she began taking singing lessons. Sanna also went to Rytmus Musikergymnasium in Malmö where she studied singing/songwriting for three years. After graduating she moved to London to study songwriting for a year at the well-known university The Institute Of Contemporary Music Performance. Sanna constantly keeps educating herself in the subject of music. After moving home to Sweden she took part time courses in music theory and music theatre history followed by a year on the singer/songwriter programme at Malmö Musikhögskola. She is currently studying strategic communication and digital media at Lund University.

Sanna Hansson & The Swatchmen

Sanna started playing together with talented musicians Phelix Jakobsson (bass), Oskar Nyberg (guitar) and Kristian Lindberg (drums), forming The Swatchmen shortly after moving home from London. The collaboration started while she was still living in the UK when she brought together a group of musicians over the Internet. Phelix was an old classmate from Rytmus, Oskar's sister used to take dance classes with Sanna and Kristian simply replied to an add Sanna posted on Bandfinder.

Since their first rehersal in July 2015, they have developed a sharp sound and a unique stage image. With an average of one gig per week, often more, they can add several events to their resumé such as LundaPride and Kulturnatten Lund. In December 2015 they won 'Battle of Music' where the jury complimented them for a professional performance, catchy songs and elaborate stage outfits.

In April 2016 the band went to London to play some of the venues Sanna had played as a solo act during her year in the city: The Good Ship, The Moustache Bar, Aspers Casino and London's biggest shopping mall Westfield.

Since the summer of 2016, the band has a new band member -Hampus Hansson on keys and backing vocals. On January 12th 2017, the band held a release party for their debut EP "Bye Bye Strawberry Pie" at Moriska Paviljongen in Malmö. The EP was released online Friday the 13th of January 2017. The record was produced and mixed by Hampus Hansson and mastered by Tobias Ekqvist at Sunnanå Studio.

After the release, guitarist Oskar went away on a six month trip around the world. During the spring of 2017 the band collaborated with guitarist Sebastian Zakrisson for several shows. Oskar arrived back home just a month before the release of the single "Humbug" with "Drunk" added as a B-side. He recorded the guitar track before leaving and the rest of the band continued the work during the spring. The single was premiered on the Swedish music blog Popmuzik the 12th of July and released on several streaming services the 14th of July. This release was also produced and mixed by the band's keyboard player Hampus Hansson and mastered by Tobias Ekqvist at Sunnanå Studio.

They released their debut EP early this year entitled 'Bye Bye Strawberry Pie', 5 tracks packed full of catchy tunes, and we recommend you track it down on streaming services. 'Humbug' is another track in a similar style, a swaggering track with cleverly written instrumentation and an inventive piano line. There's more than a hint of Katzenjammer in their style of music, and this of course makes their music really easy to like on first listen.
